This came up during job decisions this year. I had an offer that was, overall, more lucrative, but did not line up as well for my long-term career aspirations. As I talked through this with my dad, he mentioned the above statement. It is much more important to set yourself up for future success by building skills and experiences along with what your future ambitions are rather than working for money. If I am good at what I do, the money will be there. If I’m doing something that doesn’t translate well to my future plans, that’s probably not the right move.
“Don’t take a job for the money, the money will take care of itself if you take the right job.”
