My second year out of college, I finally read the book ‘How to Win Friends & Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie. There was a lot of practical advice in there, but the one that stuck out to me the most and I started practicing immediately was to make a sincere effort to learn people’s names. I used to be terrible at remembering names, in fact, I still am. But I found the power in simply recognizing telling a barista “Good morning, (insert name here), how is your day going?” It’s simply amazing the way people light up knowing they are cared about enough to be called by their name.
“Remembering a person’s name has great power.”
