My former boss greatly valued honesty and transparency as part of his management philosophy. Working in HR, I faced a number of tricky situations in which I had to balance employee and company interests. Whenever I asked for his advice, he always told me to tell the truth as much as was possible in the situation. Reflecting back, I regret situations in which I withheld the truth much more than those in which I was honest, even if that was difficult at the time.
