“If you do a job 5% better than it needs to be done, you’ll do it better than 95% of people.”

This and the 80/20 rule were my dad’s key points in growing up. He wanted us to strive to do our best and, when we complained that it was good enough, he would usually use this. It’s led me to realize that doing just a little bit more work than is necessary will typically provide a much larger recognition than you would expect. He has convinced me to really try to go above in beyond in almost everything that I do, and I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without these lessons.
