This definition, which I have read in two of my favorite books—Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis and The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness by Tim Keller—has revolutionized the way I think about humility. When I am not living without humility, I tend to swing emotionally between states of feeling very proud of my accomplishments and being much too hard on myself for my failures. Living with humility instead means focusing less on myself, and more on how I can support and encourage others in their struggles and victories.
“True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.”
C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) ― Author/ Theologian
